A SOLUTION:
Stop building more visitor accommodations.
Mahalo to everyone who previously testified on the visitor accommodations moratorium bill. After review by the Maui Planning Commission, this bill (PSLU-28) is now back before the County Council. Together, we can stop the continued expansion of our already overbuilt tourism industry and return it to its appropriate place as a contributor to quality of life on Maui.
Unfortunately, we can expect the hotel development industry to show up in opposition, so we need a strong showing of support to counter their demand for endless growth.
Please testify in support of “A BILL FOR AN ORDINANCE ESTABLISHING CHAPTER 19.98, MAUI COUNTY CODE, DECLARING A MORATORIUM ON NEW TRANSIENT ACCOMMODATIONS ON MAUI.”

I believe it’s very important here is defining a resident. Because if you move here and apply for affordable housing you pretty much can get it. We need to take care of those who are born and raised here first . How does that look like in law? I’m not sure but we can look for solutions to take care of any part Hawaiian family first in affordable housing.
