Maui Tomorrow Foundation Announces New Executive Director
The Maui Tomorrow Foundation, an environmental advocacy organization founded in 1989, has announced the selection of Albert Perez as its new executive director. Perez, who was one of the original founders of Maui Tomorrow, will fill the vacancy created by Irene Bowie’s departure in April. The selection was made after an extensive search and selection process.
“We are very pleased to announce this appointment,” said Judith Michaels, President of the Board of Directors. “Albert will bring leadership and creativity, as well as a sense of history, to Maui Tomorrow’s programs. He has a breadth of perspective and experience in the government, private and non-profit sectors, and has a demonstrated commitment to protecting the ʻāina.”
Perez, who was born and raised in Hawaii, earned a Master’s degree in Urban and Regional Planning from the University of Hawaii at Manoa, and has extensive experience in Geographic Information Systems. Albert has worked at the State of Hawaii Office of Coastal Zone Management, the Washington State Department of Transportation, and the County of Maui. He has served as a volunteer and/or board member for Sierra Club Hawaii, The Wilderness Society, and Life of the Land.
“I look forward to returning to Maui Tomorrow to build upon the impressive accomplishments of Irene Bowie and our Board of Directors,” remarked Perez. “The quality of our environment and our quality of life are closely related. Maui Tomorrow will continue to play a key role in advocating for the protection of both.”
The Maui Tomorrow Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit environmental advocacy organization, serves as a watchdog for enforcement of Hawaii’s environmental and land use laws.
