Governor Abercrombie signed House Bill 1520. This bill is intended to help more homeowners and renters access and afford clean energy by allowing them to pay for the cost of renewable energy and conservation projects which lower their electric consumption on their electric bill.
Similar programs have been set up in other states. HB 1520 directs the Public Utilities Commission (PUC) to investigate how an on-bill financing program could operate in Hawai’i and gives the PUC the discretion to implement such a program.
On July 8th, 2011, the Governor signed this bill into law and reitereated his commitment to Hawaii’s clean energy goals and policies that create new green jobs.
